grub-stage2: Why does it take so long?

Why dows stage2 last for more than 10 seconds? Is there eny way to shorten that procedure?

In /etc/grub, you can change the timeout (you will need to open ist as root, though - type su, the root password and the name of your text editor (with hard returns in between, of course))
