GRUB: Seletec item cannot fit into memory


I am using GNU GRUB version 0.95 and boot from a CDROM. I am getting an error "Error 28: Selected item cannot fit into memory". This happen when I highlight the kernel and hit [ENTER]. Please see the complete message below.

kernel /bzImage root=/dev/ram0
[Linux-bzImage, setup=0xc00, size=0x1c57df]
initrd /initrd.gz
[Linux-initrd @ 0x9fcf4000, 0x26b624 bytes]

Error 28: Selected item cannot fit into memory

Press any key to continue...

Any comment or idea will be appreciated.

May I suggest hardware error. If it is only loading these two files, then the ram stick at ram0 address may have problem. If you have two ram sticks, try swapping them over. I am assuming very old hardware and low ram!!

I have try to boot with several system and get the same error. I also try to boot with a system that has 8Gig of memory.

If that is the case I would suspect the cd. try a live cd on your system, and if that works, then you cd has a problem.

Also would be good to know what distro you are trying to boot and if you could, post the grub.conf / menu.lst

It boot fine with other CD. I make bootable CD again and still give the same problem. Below is the menu.lst.

default 0
timeout 10

root (cd)

title kernel64-mp
kernel /bzImage root=/dev/ram0
