Grub - multi OS boot
 

How to make the grub fully functioning when creating a new entry in the grub.conf file... i mean when i create a new kernel i am not able to boot to it even afer adding an entry in the conf file... i would like to know the minimum parameters reqd for getting the a grub entry properly functioning...

The same as your existing one should be correct with the name changed. Perhaps you could post a copy of your config file and any error messages your are receiving.

New question - grub and multi-OS
 

I've had a complete failure of my home multi-OS laptop. It was getting more and more unstable as the week passed, so I finally decided that it was worth my time to create a backup (while I had access to it) and literally "reformat it".

I used my recover disks from Toshiba - which should have restored it to it's initial "factory" state minus the GRUB and multi-boot Linux. All went fine during the recovery and I re-booted the puter.

The problem is that I can't get past the grub> prompt. I thought that when the recovery disks formatted the disk, that it completely deleted our dual boot, but somehow, I can't get to windows because of the grub prompt.

Do you know why this is happening? Do you know how to get past this prompt? Or even how to just get rid of GRUB altogether?

I have done a "man" and "info" on grub - nothing there that will help. I am also in the process of doing a google search on it to see if there is anything I can glean from that. Plus, I'm not getting anywhere with the documentation that I have. So, I was hoping that you would have some suggestions as to where to go from here. I'm also trying to re-install the recovery disks, just in case I missed something.

I would love to keep both Linux and WinXP on it, but right now, I'm focused on getting XP up and going first.
