grub menu.lst

I used to have the code scroll on the screen during boot but I don't remember how I changed either the "quiet or splash" command in the grub menu.lst file.

Any answer to that??

I'm guessing that you mean the running dialog produced after the kernel and init get control. I assume that would be controlled by the arguments that get passed on the kernel line. While menu.lst is the repository of these arguments, it is not a grub function.

I found this with a Google search:

rgreeves,

Please proceed with extreme caution editing your grub.conf file.

But basically you want to remove the `quiet' option from your kernel line(s) in your grub.conf.

grub.conf and menu.lst are both names for the same file (ie the grub configuration file). menu.lst is seen more often these days.

I have NEVER seen a "quit" option in this file---can you explain how this relates to OP's question?

rgreeves;
Did I guess correctly what you are trying to do?

I seem to remember that I changes the splash to no splash or something like that. Incidently since upgrading to Ubuntu 8.10 the logo and progress bar no longer appear.
