grub menu disappears after reboot

hi, I have multi-boot emachines with a usb floppy and usb floppy and usb hard drive I also have a usb hub which the floppy and hard drive is attached. also a usb flash drive is on the hub. I installed ubuntu 8.10 on the usb hard drive and usb flash drive when I boot from the flash drive its ok.but the next time i try to boot from it it stops at stage 1.5 and no menu shows up.why? so I grub-install fd0 and I can boot from the floppy but the next boot the floppy also stops at stage 1.l5 why? I have tried writeprotect the floppy but it did not work. please help.

Did you attached the floppy drive and hd drive on a usb HUB ?
Did you change the connection to the HUB of the floppy or HD ?
It seems to me that order on the HUb change one way of the other
