Grub keeps dying out when I dual-boot

Hey all, I'm running Windows XP SP3 and trying to dual-boot that with Debian Squeeze. XP is running on a SATA 500GB hard drive, I'm putting Debian on a 250GB SATA hard drive and I'm putting Grub on the MBR of the XP drive.

The Debian install goes without a hitch and Grub does work, but only for a couple of times. After booting the computer a couple of times (two or three) Grub seems to die--my computer keeps rebooting and I never see the Grub prompt. Should I be using LILO instead?

Thanks,

Joe B

Hi Joe B!
First I would find out where Grub is/ was installed, maybe you can repair it: On the German Wiki
http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/GRUB_Umge...=grub%20finden
I found a Terminal command - I name it GrubHexdump -; please try it and post the entire output:
Code:
for d in $(sed -ne 's/^.*\(sd.*\)/\1/p' /proc/partitions);do echo -e "$d\t ID: $(sudo hexdump -v -s 0x80 -n 2 -e '2/1 "%x" "\n"' /dev/$d)";done;echo -e "\nGRUB 1: 5272/aa75\nGRUB 2: 7c3c/48b4/020"
Hint: It's a long time ago I used Debian, so I don't remember, if "sudo" works; if not, you must get root rights (su or su -)and delete the "sudo" in the command and copy that "new" command without "sudo" in your Terminal.
