I am using Fedora Core 2 and Redhat 7.2 Whenever I try to install grub , I get an error message saying
/dev/root: Not found or not a block device

I have tried to install grub on my SCSI and HDD both and get the same error from both of them,

grub-install /dev/sda
/dev/root: Not found or not a block device

grub-install /dev/hda
/dev/root: Not found or not a block device

plzz note that I have even tried to install grub on a fresh installation (didnt install any bootloader during installation) and I get the same error message.

This is a discussion about loading/installing GRUB in odd places. The later posts seem to have relevance. Meanwhile, post your partitions ... there is clearly some reason the installer won't see your root fs.
