I have RAID1.. throgh SATA cable..One of my HDD got failed to detect...hen i chkd other hdd is detecting in BIOS but i couldn't boot.. It says GRUB Hard Disk Error.
One HDD is totally down ..some noise sound is coming from that HDD. So i chkd another HDD is detecting in BIOS but i couldn't boot...GRUB HARDDISK ERROR....
Distribution: Slackware (mainly) and then a lot of others...

If the hard drive is not being detced by BIOS (when another one is) then the drive is damaged and has to be replaced.
I do not think you can back up the data on that drive - unless you have the expertise and tools to physically open and replace the parts of the drive.
