Exclamation GRUB goes to rescue mode new instalation


i just installed Ubuntu 7.10 from a live cd, now when i go to boot it grub drops into rescue mode and won't boot an OS, i can boot my Live CD fine and i can boot ubuntu using a grub boot floppy, i've tried re-installing GRUB and had no change plz help!!!

What error number does grub give you before dropping into rescue mode? Check your file /boot/grub/menu.lst to see if the settings are correct.

Something like that happened to me too. It turned out that the installer had failed to create an initrd... Or rather, there was an initrd but it had a .bak extension, which had to be removed first.

it was giving me error 18 b4 i reloaded grub then it stared going into rescue mode with no error number, the problem was fixed by re-installing ubuntu anyway.

Sometimes, software and OSs are fixed with a reinstall. Crazy, huh?
