Problem with installing GRUB over NTLDR is that it requires at least a small Linux partition which I'd like to avoid. GRUB4Dos solved that problem for me, but it doesn't detect the SD card so I still can't boot from it.

I suspect this is hardware specific, so most computers will see all drives from GRUB so here are some instructions for people attempting the same thing:

1. Get GRUB4DOS here.
2. I found this very useful when experimenting with GRUB2 instead of older GRUB that G4D seems to be based on to detect more drives. This blogger describes how to load GRUB2 level 2 from G4D. GRUB2 Level 2 from G4D Level 1.
3. If you're using Vista or 7, use BCDEDIT to add G4D to Windows boot menu. This site describes how to do it.
