Grub and initrd.img
Hi All,
A few day's ago I posted a problem with 'cp' and a climbing load average. Turns out it was the crumby array controller causing the CPU to work so hard. My solution was to switch to a higher performance controller and the problem was solved. My question is switching the array controller on production servers and I thought I'd throw this out to see if anyone knows if this will work or not. With identical hardware install RH 7.2 with new controller and copy the <kernel>.img file off site somewhere. On production servers replace original initrd.img files with ones for new controller. edit grub to reflect new controller device. Down the machine and replace hardware. Fire it up. I think in theory I think it'll work. Anyone ever tried this or seriously doubt it will work? Alternate idea?? Ed |
I dont see why it wouldn't work, that is as long as you make sure to properly configure grub and such

Just had to reply to this post to say "It Worked" without any problem.
