For some weeks I got a new computer because the old one crashed.
I am using Gramps and since I had made backups or a copy from everything that was important to me I thought there was no problem at all.

As I installed GRAMPS I discovered they had a new database format.

If I want to import the database (GRDB) I get an error something like cannot open /tmp/tmpSly6VR. It seems Gramps makes a copy from the grdb file with this name (or something like this) in /tmp but than it cannot work with this file.

I tried to import as root and as user with the same result.

Did somebody have the same problem and is there a solution ?

Any hint is welcome.

I haven't encountered this problem but I've only been using gramps for a couple of years.

The gramps wiki suggests that the error you are seeing is caused by missing database environment files (ie, you need to backup more than just the grdb file).

If you think it is really just a version issue rather than missing environment, you can get older versions of gramps from the sourceforge website. You could then export your file into xml or gedcom format and reimport into the newer gramps.

Thank You I did already some Googling but I missed this.

I just have to try to get the old system working in a way, or get the environment from it. The last thing will be possible anyway but it may be easier to export to a more 'normal' database.

For next time I know now not to use some obscure formats for an export!!!
