I just installed slackware 10.2, everything installed fine, but when I get to the login prompt my keyboard does not work. I searched around and found that gpm might be the problem. I could not figure out the proper way to fix this so I just booted into knoppix and I renamed rc.gpm so that it could not be loaded. After doing this my keyboard works, but then when I got to startx it no longer works. I have tried starting gpm and then starting x but it still does not work. I have used this same mouse and keyboard with an installation of slackware before but I don't know why it's not working this time. I may have used a different mouse driver before I'm using the imps/2 driver now. My mouse is a usb mouse and I have a ps/2 keyboard.
I disabled acpi in the bios with after gpm is loaded my keyboard works, but still whenever I startx it no longer works. Don't know if that helps with anything, it just makes me more confused.
edit: is the imps/2 the correct mouse driver to be using for a usb mouse?
It depends of the mouse. A standard logitech 2 buttons + wheel/button is imps/2.
A 2 buttons is ps/2, etc...
If you totally reformated your hd and used new config files so it don't matter.
Maybe try to play with your bios IRQ parameters.
I found out the problem I just had to change it from /dev/mouse to /dev/input/mouse0 in xorg.conf and now it works fine. Also it had nothing to do with the acpi setting in the bios I didn't realize I had changed something else when I did this also. Thanks for the help on this. Now to figure out my many other problems lol.
