I am trying to install Tor on Ubuntu 16.04(Xenial Xerus). These are the instructions from the Tor website:
https://www.torproject.org/docs/debian.html.en
I added the repos to /etc/apt/sources.list. the problem comes in when I try to retrieve the gpg key to sign the packages. I ran this:
Code:
gpg --keyserver keys.gnupg.net --recv A3C4F0F979CAA22CDBA8F512EE8CBC9E886DDD89
I get this output in the terminal
Code:
gpg: requesting key 886DDD89 from hkp server keys.gnupg.net
?: keys.gnupg.net: Host not found
gpgkeys: HTTP fetch error 7: couldn't connect: Success
gpg: no valid OpenPGP data found.
gpg: Total number processed: 0
gpg: keyserver communications error: keyserver unreachable
gpg: keyserver communications error: public key not found
gpg: keyserver receive failed: public key not found
I really cannot find any recent help requests from someone trying to install Tor on Ubuntu. This leads me to believe that the only way to get Tor is through Debian or other OSes that use the Debian repositories. Would running the application through a VM still be as secure?
