GPE on Tablet and on Desktop?

I am trying to find a way to share my contact information, calendar and todo list between my Nokia N810 and my desktop(s).

As it seems, GPE should be the PIM application for the N810. Currently I am not running a PIM on my desktop, but is that because I had a Palm.(*)

My first intention was to install complete GPE on my desktop. But it seems that it conflicts with KDE. At least the Debian package manager attempted to remove kde and kdecore, although it offered to put some kdebase stuff back.

- If the entire GPE suite incompatible with KDE, and should it run exclusively on palmtops and tablets?

- If I install gpe-contacts, gpe-calendar, gpe-todo on my desktop, do I share the information between my desktop and tablet?

- Any other advice, e.q. PIM A on the desktop, but PIM B on the N810 and still a means to sync?

Thanks for useful information.

(*) OK, I had a Palm Tungsten. Synced it with KPilot. It was (in those days) always a struggle to get it hotsynced properly. Once during hotsync Kpilot wrote its empty contents to the Palm. Bye-bye data! The the Palm broke, got another Palm, said goodbye to Kpilot. The new Palm broke as well. Now I am fed up with both KPilot and $400 Palms and no data sharing yet. So I bought a decent Linux tablet in the hope that I can carry simple things like appointments on the desktop and in my pocket. The paper form of the agenda is a result of 300 years agenda revolution, we shouldn't expect such a thing functioning as after only 20 years in software evolution.
