Google runs on GWS?

Google.com runs GWS/2.1 as their Web server (at least that's how their server reports) under Linux. I've never heard of this Web server software before and I'd like to find out more information about it. Who makes it? Is it Open Source? Etc.

I've been searching on the Web, but cannot find anything other than it's reportedly used by 1% of Web servers out there.

Thanks,

If I had to guess, I would say "GWS" stands for "Google Web Server".

I wouldn't be surprised if they created their own web server to provide the front-end for their search technology. When so much is riding on the security of your system, the most secure option is to create your own server software.
