Google Chrome - Horrible Lag

I am running Debian 6.0 i686 and recently installed Google's Chrome web browser. When I am opening a new tab the entire browser locks up every time. I must wait for the new tab to finish loading before I can continue browsing.

Chrome version in 6.0.472.63

Is that happening for anyone else? Any ideas on how to speed things up?

Thanks!

Upgrading Chrome might help. I think Chrome for Linux is up to version 10 now. (or maybe 9)

I just updated to v10.0.648 directly off the google site. The repo I have must have some very old sources as I just used an apt-get to grab my old copy.

The problem still exists just not quite as bad now. Its kind of like when you are running nouveau instead of the official nvidia drivers, the windows are fine one at a time but if you load the screen their all jumpy and laggy.

All of my drivers are installed and the system works great btw so I know its not anything like that. I would use firefox but I don't really want to go back...
