I have few questions for installing google earth on my linux machnie.

As a pre-requisite for installing Google Earth Enterprise software in Linux mahcnie i want to have the below info.
Can you please tell me how do i cehck them with the commands wether they have been already installed in my machnie?

1)Java Runtime Environment - full JDK from Sun (version 1.6 or later)
2)OpenSSL (version 0.9.8e or the latest version available)
3)Red Hat Enterprise Linux (either AS or ES) v.4 or higher

4)Python (latest version available for your platform)
5)X11 libraries, including Mesa (for disconnected production servers only)

PLease tell me how do i check them with the commands.

Hai Habeeb,

I find number 3 somewhat curious. Why would red hat be a prerequisite?

What distro do you use? This is helpful to know how to check the packages on your computer.

Anyway, the ordinary kind (so not an "enterprise edition" or anything) ran on my eeePC with Arch linux, so I really have a hard time believing Red Hat EL is a cold hard prerequisite.

I'll assume you have Red Hat though. Red Hat uses the RPM package manager, so RPM is what you want to use. The nice thing about rpm is, that it can tell you if a particular package has been installed, even if you don't know its full name.

If you posted this through a windows-like environment (perhaps like KDE or Gnome), you have X11, so don't worry about that one. To make sure: rpm -q X11 (or perhaps rpm -q x11). It should tell you if you have X11 installed. You can do that with every package name you mention and see if it has been installed. To install a missing package, use rpm -U -test <package name> to see if it would install. If you have dependencie problems, first install those packages that are missing. Always test a package before you try to install for real with rpm -U <package name>.

hope this helps. If not, we'll hear about it.

Ok, I understand that you are still to install RH? Then I'd suggest you that first and check what is installed during the setup. Chances are, you already have both of these in a standard installation of RH, especially if you opt for the development tools.

If JDK and OpenSSL aren't part of the RH distribution, you can download either a selfextractor or a selfextracting RPM here: http://developers.sun.com/downloads/top.jsp and select the JDK download to, well, download it.

For OpenSSL, look here: http://www.openssl.org/source/ and select whatever is latest, download it and read the installation instructions.

earth.google.com (but, really, had you entered 'google earth' in a google search, you'd've gotten this link earlier than I am capable of replying).
