Good CDR/W software for Redhat8.0 ?
 

Eroaster rocks, but to get it to work in Redhat8.0, you need to basically have two versions of gnome-python, which seems like a lot of effort for one program.

On the site, the ECLiPt people say that if someone could create the compatible redhat packages they'd appreciate it. I think that someone should really be redhat myself, although it's not my place to make demands of people who gave me a free OS :tisk: (I did buy redhat 7.0 though :D).

Aneeway. Until this problem gets fixed, two questions:

1. Has anyone managed to get ECLiPt going on redhat 8.0 ? Is it worth the effort?
2. Can anyone suggest an alternative (I have GToaster now and it's UI *sucks*) ?

P.S. I tried searching on this topic but the ol' minimum string length issue for redhat '8' and 'CD' probably made the search skip everything useful.

xcdroast does work.

k3b rocks, easily the best CD writing software available for Linux as far as I'm concerned.

There's a Red Hat rpm package available, you'll have to tweak some stuff to get it going.
- Go to /usr/share/apps/k3b and chmod 644 k3bsetup
- Add your user to the xcdwrite group
- Log out
- Log in

run k3b and write happily ever after ;)

Hmmm. Xcdroast installation works but it won't run. There's something wrong between the libimlib package and the current xcdroast. First time I've seen that one too - it refuses to authenticate the root password at the prompt!

k3b looks great but I run Gnome2.

And no KDE at all? I am sure you are aware, but just for knowledge sake, you can run KDE apps in Gnome; and I love k3b too :)

...A search for "cdrecord" at freshmeat turns up 45 projects...

UnTamed, the only problem I see with that is he is already using one that *to him* sucks. So he's probably hoping to not have to go through 45 projects to find one that is cool he cannot live without it (via our suggestions and features).

I'm not really going to d/l all the KDE Libs for this one app. I'll try installing xcdroast from source. Have to confess though I was never too impressed by xcdroast either.

You know, you could just go command line... cdrecord and mkisofs is about all I ever used before I found out about k3b, and then even long after until I saw the thread on making it work for users.

Anyway, then you wouldn't have to worry about what sucked and what didn't. You'd do it all yourself :)

Oh, and I wasn't meaning to d/l all the KDE libs for this 1 app, I was just thinking maybe you had both DE's on your system already and just ran Gnome2.

Oh, and I'm not too sure if GToaster and GTK Combust are the same app, if not, you might look into that, I do recall at least seeing it once, don't recall if it was great or not.

I know what you mean... I was gonna suggest a few I tried in the past [...cdbakeoven, simplecdrx,...] but couldn't remember which rely on what libs, so I figured, heck, why not give the guy all the options, console apps included.

Well, command line I think it will be. There is a lot out there and I was really looking for someone to say "Hey XXX application's great, and it works with Gnome2!" but I realise that eroaster is maybe in a class of it's own for it's UI.

Redhat users will just have to wait for a decent CDR/W GUI tool.
