gnuplot question
i want to create a boxed graph with categorical data and i found this tutorial - i am refering to the 3d graph:

gnuplot> set xtics ("April" 1, "May" 2, "June" 3, "July" 4)
gnuplot> plot "test.dat" using 1:2:3 notitle with boxes,\
"test.dat" using 1:2  notitle with lines

The problem is probably, because of the example .dat file - there is none. Is it
"1 June value"? Is it "June 1 value", etc...

Anyway, i get boxes, that are attached to each other and i cannot get a proper graph, as the one in the picture. Can anyone please give some guidance?

As I remember, usual tab-separated columns of numbers will do. "June" will be substituted automatically instead of 3 in footer.

Yup, the format is <xvalue><space><yvalue> for (x,y) graph. And of course dot and not comma in the numbers..for example

1 11.0
2 12.1
3 13.2
4 14.1
5 15.0
6 16.2

got it?

More like <xvalue> <whitespace> <lower y bound> <whitespace> <upper y bound> if we consider a box diagram..
