Running Programs & permissions error

I installed gnumeric to be able to view xls files in my web browser. Well it doesn't work because gnumeric won't run. I get this error when I run gnumeric:

ORBit-ERROR **: Wrong permissions for /tmp/orbit-p

aborting...
Aborted

I don't understand what I need to set my perssions on that folder as so I can start gnumeric. Any body run into this error trying to run an application?

I also noticed that this error comes up when I run other programs from the command line. It does the same in root as it does in my user account. Does anyone know what permissions are supposed to be set to in the /tmp and orbit directories?
