Unhappy Gnucash .log file loading problem

I recently downloaded and installed Mandrake 10.0 Official. Before that, I was using Mandrake 9.2 Power Pack (purchased box). 9.2 came with Gnucash version 1.8.6. Mdk 10.0 comes with Gnucash version 1.8.8. Before I wiped out Mdk 9.2, I saved the .log files from Gnucash so I could continue with all my saved data once I had 10.0 installed. Here's the problem:

I opened up the Gnucash program and tried to open the .log file I had saved. I got and error that said (summarized):

"The file you are trying to open appears to be from a newer version of Gnucash. Please upgrade your software and try again."

It is a strange error since the file came from and OLDER verison (1.8.6). I tried to install 1.8.6 from my Mdk 9.2 cd and when I opened the RPM, it told me that the libgnucash.rpm (or something like that) also needed to be installed. But the problem is since I'm doing this on Mdk 10.0, it installed the libgnucash.rpm for 1.8.8, not 1.8.6. Maybe I should try to install the libgnucash.rpm for 1.8.6 first? Is there some way I could get 1.8.8 to use my data from 1.8.6?

However I do it, I really need to be able to use my saved data. It has all of my critical financial information. I appreciate everyones pending help.

they try to make it so the old files work but i guess like all software can't test all possibles

i can't think of anything else to do but go back to the old one
might have to uninstall the new one and then it's lib
then install the old lib then the old gnucash
and hope you package manager isn't a distribution version nazi

both are compiled with the same older version of gtk1/glib1 and company so it should run fine
i bet.

otherwise you wight have to compile the older one from source
it's easy but will require all the old gnome1 developement packages
./configure will complain you toward the ones you need
