GNUCash howto?: monthly automatic withdrawals in

I'm new to GNUCash - and to book keeping for that matter. Theres a feature in GNUCash that allows you to set a repeat transaction. When I try to activate it, it just repeats the previous entry mmediately on the same date, but my understanding is that you can ask it to repeat the same transaction once a month, or at other intervals. Trouble is,I can't seem to find out how to do that.

For instance automatic payments for a life ionsurance policy, or subscription of some sort. It isn't hard to set them up with the bank, but for my record at home ...?

The basic documentation can be found at http://www.gnucash.org/viewdoc.phtml?doc=help (it's not hugely user friendly, but is readable). I think you need http://www.gnucash.org/docs/v2.4/C/g...ed-editor.html which tells you what to edit to set schedules up. Other info can be found at http://www.gnucash.org/docs/v2.4/C/g...ans-sched.html.

Hope this helps.

Mt eyes tend to glaze over when it comes to accounts — all I understand about money is how to spend it — but I've set up 13 scheduled transactions. Instead of running the editor, I make a conventional transaction for the first payment. Then I right-click on it and choose the "schedule" option. Then all you have to do is set the frequency and the date of the first payment (i.e. the next one).
