GNU GRUB version 1.99-21ubuntu3 problem

Hi,

I have problem with GRUB in LUBUNTU installation. I run the following command
sudo mount /dev/sdXY /mnt
sudo grub-install --root-directory=/mnt /dev/sdX

Now I have this problem when I reboot

grub> root (hd0,0)
error: unknown command 'root'

Below is a link to a list of commands for Grub2, note that 'root' is not on the list although that worked on the earlier version of Grub.

To find the location of boot files use: ls at the prompt. Probably it would be a good idea to use the boot repair CD if you have a bootable computer on which to download, then burn to a CD. Select the Create Bootinfo Summary option.

You did change the "sdXY" to the actually drive letter and partition number, this is just an example?
