There are no servers for Netmeeting anymore since they switched to MSN. You can connect directly to him via his IP address or hostname, provided you have opened the appropriate ports in your firewall.

I've tried it (Netmeeting and Gnomemeeting) but the netmeeting could not see the video being sent from gnomemeeting. Sound did work. Gnomemeeting did see the video from netmeeting. Of course, that was a while ago, and might be more functional now.

You might give a whirl to a fork of Gaim called gaim-vv , which will be eventually backported into the main Gaim CVS. It supports video and voice, and works in both Windows and Linux.

i was trying to use gaim but it seems to have lots of problems. might try to download curent version and compile

i thought that netmeeting had some ils server ils.microsoft.com or somthing what does it mean when it wan'ts me to put in a user directory where i have to register does that matter if it is the default or does it have to be the same as the person you are talking to

It used to have the ILS server, but they shut the service down years ago. But you don't need a central server; you can "dial" someone's IP address directly.

Try the latest build of Gaim and see how it works.
