GNOME2 - how to change window managers?

I want to try out Sawfish. I installed the latest Debian package (Sawfish 1.3) on my Debian sarge system. But when I make the following command:

killall metacity; sawfish &

Im getting the following error:

error--> (error "sm-open-connection" "Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed")

Does anyone know what the deal is with this?
