It not a normal Gnome Vs Kde question. I have a little agueing with a guy. I say gnome is slightly lighter than kde, and he says the opersite.
Now which one is the Winner??

I don't think there can be a fair comparison. Either GNOME or KDE can be stripped down a LOT by reducing functionality and/or eye candy, and running lighter applications. Most users won't be fully stripping down either (otherwise, it makes more sense to use a more lightweight DE or just a WM).

So what's a fair comparison? Different Linux distributions have different default configurations for GNOME and KDE.

I know that for my purposes, KDE is "faster" than GNOME, because Konqueror is much faster at file browsing than Nautilus (at least on Debian Stable). But that's just one application.
