Gnome Session Manager crashes for non-root users

I recently reinstalled Gentoo Linux without any problems but suddenly normal users on my system could no longer login after an 'emerge world'. I didn't find out until I restarted and am having trouble finding the source of the problem.

The Gnome Session Manager freezes at the splash screen before any icons appear and prompts me to submit a bug report.
