This may be a dumb question but I was wondering if it's all right to install and run programs such as gaim or any other gnome programs while using KDE?
I run KDE exclusively on Slack 10 and I have a few GTK apps such as GAIM and XChat which run fine as long as you hav GTK installed and other dependencies.
I realized that I don't have the gtk libraries installed. I looked for all available software that came with mandrake and it came up with a bunch of gtk software but I don't know which ones I need...
just look for gtk. There are two versions 1.x and 2.x (install both) and then look for gtk-libs ( I am not sure if it's the right name but it should be something similar). You may also want to install gnome-themes so that you can change the way your gtk apps look.
Well, it is Mandrake, so I guess you should just try to install the programs, and the system will tell you specifically what you need. I have used Gaim and Evolution for a long time without problems.
