Gnome Problem

I can't get gnome to run. I am invoking it with gnome-session in my .xinitrc file in my home directory. I get sent to kde's window manager and I get the following errors, taken from xsession-errors:

SESSION_MANAGER=local/dhcp:/tmp/.ICE-unix/3324
Gnome-Message: gnome_execute_async_with_env_fds: returning -1
Gnome-Message: gnome_execute_async_with_env_fds: returning -1
Gnome-Message: gnome_execute_async_with_env_fds: returning -1
Gnome-Message: gnome_execute_async_with_env_fds: returning -1
Gnome-Message: gnome_execute_async_with_env_fds: returning -1

Ideas?

thanks

I ran into a similar problem with Gnome 2.6 and Suse 9.

This was because I did not have /opt/gnome/bin in my PATH ; seems it is absolutely necessary to include it, in order to run Gnome successfully.

I fixed things by changing the instructions setting PATH in my HOME/.profile file. Works fine now.

Hope it helps.
