Gnome Preferred Applications - New Tab in Opera

In Gnome's "Preferred Applications" applet, I have "opera %s" (without the quotes) as my custom web browser selection. This works, but it opens the URL in the current tab. Is there any way to open a new tab when a mailto link is clicked? I use Thunderbird for mail.

I prefer Opera over Firebird, by the way. I'm sure that's a question that will be asked.

Thank you for any suggestions!
