Gnome panel missing

The bottom panel is missing from gnome when I am logged in as root, but works fine under a user account?
I realise it must be one of the ./ files in /root but which one is corrupt. Is there an easy way to find out?
Cheers,
Steve

I think I broke it when I changed monitors (X was broken so I CNTRL-ALT-BKSP to get back to a terminal so I could fix it)
Fixed X never and never got the gnome panel back for root.

if you want the panel back and you are running redhat 8 you type this in the console
gnome-panel & #

it is different for 7.x and i can't think of it

My Panel went missing after installing some programs and I used (gnome-panel & #) and it put it back! Thanks
