GNOME panel doesn't show iconified windows

Like the subject says. One day the window pager crashed and I couldn't get it started again. So I logged out of gnome, deleted all of the .gnome* folders in my home directory and it seemed to work. However, now none of the windows show up on the panel. Even when I iconify a window, it disappears and won't show up on the panel. Any ideas?

as far as i remember, gnome doesnt only depend on the .gnome folders. Dont know exactly which ones.

I dont know where the problem can be, but a not so clean solution would be to create a new home from scratch.

I'm not sure I understand the problem but it sounds like you want to add the task bar applet to the panel.

ovf is correct, you need to install a taskbar to the panel as it doesn't seem to have one by default.

I ran into this last week and tinkered around a bit before noticing that.
