Gnome not listed in KDM (KDE 3.4)

I'm having trouble getting Gnome to appear in KDM. Before I get any farther, let me explain what I did...

1) I installed SuSE 9.2. I **thought** I installed all of the Gnome packages, but maybe not.

2) Directly after install completed, I downloaded and installed KDE 3.4 supplementary packages (and various other upgrades) from suse.com via YaST2. I'm not sure if Gnome was in KDM's list before I installed the supplementary packages.

Now I want Gnome, and there's no Gnome. I prefer KDE as my primary desktop environment, but as any linux user, enjoy being able to switch between various desktop environments.

I've tried to research KDM, and how it lists other DE's. I'm a little lost ... my KDM doesn't follow many of the examples I've read about. I read somewhere that KDM changed the way it handles DE's with the release of KDE 3.4, but I don't know enough about KDM to fix it.

Any ideas?

The alternatives that appear in KDM should be in the directory /usr/share/xsessions/ as .desktop files. KDM has a directory full of the most usual choices. It can be in /usr/share/apps/kdm/sessions or /usr/local/share/apps/kdm/sessions depending on where KDE is installed. In your case I'd also look in /opt/kde3/share/apps/kdm/sessions. Copy the ones you need (gnome.desktop) into the xsessions directory.
