Whenever I open GNOME MPlayer the attached error dialog appears. What can I do about it?

Failed to open VDPAU backend libvdpau_nvidia.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory. Solution: install the backend. A casual google suggests that this error is associated with using the latest (often beta) drivers from nvidia instead of the distro packaged drivers - perhaps due to a different directory structure. eg. http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=689427 http://www.gossamer-threads.com/list...v/users/414581 http://fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?p=1284336 Another solution is to recompile mplayer without vdpau support. |
I get that error too when running under Fedora 13 with the nouveau driver (my system has on-board nvidia 9100 graphics). I ignore it, and haven't noticed any problems (but haven't tried playing a full-screen video yet)

But I'm using an ATI card, not NVidia!
EDIT: Probably should have mentioned this in the OP. |

Works now!

Just curious:
Why did they make an NVidia-only option default? Don't they know other cards exist? |

yipee
not messing in config files and just setting xv as video output with pulse audio worked for me
I don't think this one is some kind of bug, as the defaults are just defaults, every user should polish his/hers distribution first. |
