So I have recently tried to get the latest version of gnome '2.14.0' installed on my debian machine. It seems to go well until i get the build error 'Checking for x ... no' then it all goes down hill. I am building gnome with GARNOME-2.14.0. If anyone can help me with this it would be great, or if the have an easier way to get to the latest version.
Gnome 2.14.1 is now part of etch. I installed it a few days ago and it is SWEET. Noticably faster than previous Debians.
One way is to upgrade Debian from Sarge to Etch. Change every instance of the word sarge to etch in the /etc/apt/sources.list file. Then run apt-get update and then you can either upgrade the whole distro or just Gnome.
Etch is still testing so don't expect 100% stability just yet.
