gnome GUI for linuxconf in redhat 9.0

I am attempting to install linuxconf on my redhat 9.0 dist. When I tried to install the rpms, it wouldn't play ball, "no problem" thought I "I shall just download the binaries and use them instead". This done, I did the installation process as set out by the readme for linuxconf 1.32-r1 and it all seemed to go on. When I boot up now I have the 'enhanced' boot up, and it all seemed to go well.

However, when I attempt to install the gnome gui 0.65, the ./configure command gives an error very early on of the file linuxconf/proto.h being missing. I have doen a search for proto.h, and have found none in a folder /linuxconf/ so I am guessing I have compiled incorrectly.

I am using gcc-3.2.2-5, linux kernel 2.4.20-8, erm, and anything else needed as information please ask as I have no idea what else is useful...

Sorry, where are my manners? Any help would be very useful, and much appreciated in the installation.

Thanks in advance!
