GNOME fonts
I have Redhat 6.1 running on my 586 and have had some troubles with X-windows. Different cards wouldn't work, so I finally decided to resort to the crappy on-board graphics. In windoze, this gave me 16 colors at 800X600, but it seems to work better in Linux GUI. The problem I am having now is that the text is gone! All fonts with the exception of the captions under the icons on the desktop are nothing but solid black lines in their place. I was wondering what I could do about this.

The title of this post could be misleading, I have not tried KDE, so I don't even know if that works.

The text is there, I see it sometimes, especially when scrolling through a list, but for the most part it's all black.

sometimes the icons disappear in blackness as well.
the mouse will turn into a large white square also. |
What video driver are you using with X? Try vesa.
|
How would I go about that?

I switched the line in XF86Config that says:
Device "Generic VGA" to: Device "vesa" I haven't rebooted yet... will this switch me over to the vesa driver. (I think it said 'Device', it may have said 'Driver', I don't remember) |
