Gnome desktop and apps color configuration

Hi all,

I'm running Fedora Core 3, and Gnome 2.8.0. Forgive me if this is a stupid question... but here goes.

Can anyone tell me how to configure foreground and background colors in Gnome?

Is there a way to "manually" select foreground/background colors on a per application/window basis?

I know there is the theme chooser, which will set colors for all windows presumably. But many windows seem to ignore the current theme. For instance, Evolution, Gaim IM app, etc. appear with white background and black foreground no matter what theme colors are set.

Also, can I create an .Xresources file (like in the old days of straight X) and set the attributes for each app? I don't see any .Xresources file in my home directory or in my ~/.gnome or ~/.kde directories.

Many thanks,

Vartan
