Gnome 2 - create a NEW menu?

CentOS 6.7 with Gnome 2. I wish to create a menu to allow me to select one of several VMWare virtual machines which I have built.

If I right click on the panel and select Add to panel I have the choices "Main Menu - The main GNOME menu" or Menu Bar - A custom menu bar". The first adds the normal menu tree with the Gnome foot as the icon. The second choice adds the "Applications Places System" starting points to the panel. If I change the selected item in either of these menus it also reflects those changes in the original menu as installed by default. I do not want to add the VMs to the main menu tree.

At the moment I have a "Drawer" added to the panel with launchers to the VMs. This works but is not what I was after originally. Is there a way to add an independent menu tree from the Gnome 2 panel?

TIA,

Ken

i suspect that the menu is independent from the panel and lives as some sort of menu file on your machine, and another package is responsible for creating it.
look at gnome-panel's dependencies, iirc gnome-menu is one of them.
i would start searching its documentation.

Thanks ondoho,

I have been looking at some documentation and posts about the Menu. I think I will take the easy way out for now and use the drawer. I just downloaded about 487 million icon files. I have picked a half dozen colorful ones which I will use for my half dozen VMs. If I hover over the launcher in the open drawer it brings up a bubble with the name of the VM. For the time being I will live with it.

Regards,

Ken
