Gnome 2.8 Icon Placement

Can someone tell me what file/setting controls where icons on the Gnome 2.8 Desktop are placed?

I've created a default profile for new users (and already figured out that I need to search & replace the "sessions" file for current user's directory entries in order to actually log in), but once the new user is logged in the icons are all spaced out rather oddly and not like they were before I copied the profile.

If I then arrange icons in the new profile, they'll stick. But if I'm copying the entire profile, why isn't the icon placement setting following?

Thanks!
Matt (Perfectionist)
