Question Gnome 2.4 Menu/Theme Transparency

Well I've been searching the web for quite a while now on this topic and I'm getting a headache, so I figured I'd start asking on some message boards. I know for a fact that Gnome 2.4 has support for transparent colors/pixmaps via the GDK library. I'm pretty sure I've seen screen shots with certain programs that have transparent menus, etc. However, I can't seem to find any proof that one can set generic menus (Main Gnome Menu, App menus, etc) to have a transparent background in a theme.

My first thought would be to edit the gtkrc file for my current theme so that the menu background is set to some transparent color, or transparent image. Problem is, is that I can't really find any decent documentation for the "gtkrc" file. Anything I've tried has not worked.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
