gnome 2.2 resolution

hi, i'm running slackware 9.0 with gnome 2.2. Gnome seems very beautiful but it all looks a bit big in size, the icon, etcetc.... is there a way to change the desktop's resolution to something higher so that the screen won't be too big? i know 2.4 has the preference to change this, but how about 2.2?

pls help, thx

I am using GNOME 2.2.0 and I can change my resolution by going to System Settings -> Display.
