gnome's volume applet automatically fades out
 

this is weird, i can't use the gnome volumecontrol applet; whenever i load in the gnome bar it automatically fades out within a period of just a couple of seconds. It starts from current volumesetting, and then just goes silent. If i put the volume backup it will only just fade out again...I have to use the volume control app from my sound & video menu in order to set the volume. other than that, sound works great...
