Gmail Notify troubles

I am currently running SuSE 9.3 and I am fairly new to the different linux distros, including this one. I am starting to understand some of the concepts of how to get things working, but I cannot install gmail notify.. I have downloaded version 1.6 from the sourceforge project gmail-notify and it is, I guess, compiled with python. Whenever I try to work with the files, they just open in KWrite. Any help would be much appreciated.

Do you have the url for the project? Do you have Python installed? What does the README and/or the INSTALL file say?

Are you refering to this package? http://sourceforge.net/projects/gmail-notify/
If so then there is no need to compile it. Just extract the tar somewhere tidy, then to run it just use the command

 /path/where/extracted/notifier.py

It will prompt you for the information it needs.
