Hi,
I downloaded gmail-notify-1.6.tar.gz from http://gmail-notify.sourceforge.net/download.php and i extracted its contents to /usr/lib/gmail-notify-1.6 directory. What do i do now? I opened up a terminal window, typed in su, navigated to the /usr/lib/gmail-notify-1.6 directory tried ./notifier.py and nothing happened. I edited the notifier.conf file for my username and password. When i type in ./notifier.py it gives me the error:
File "./notifier.py", line 4, in ?
import pygtk
ImportError: No module named pygtk

Any help with getting this running and having it auto start when i boot the computer would be great.

I'm running 10.1 official of mandrake with the KDE desktop.

Ok now i went throught the packaging in mandrake found new version of GTK, Python, and PYgtk. I downloaded those and now i get the gmail notifier to work but it says connection failed. Did i update something to a wrong version? Do you know why it won't connect? I checked my notifier.conf file and everything in there is right.

Any help appreciated.

Do you have a firewall installed and running? SELinux? One or the other could be blocking it, if they are installed.

I have no clue, i never really used linux before. Where do i go to see if the firewall is turned on?

Check in your menu for System or Settings

Firewall is turned off. Hmm oh well thanks for the help.

just a quick question is your computer a 64bit or 32bit??

i just got kcheckgmail from rpm.pbone.net and installed it using rpm -i command.
it works without a problem you may wanna try this as well
