Gmail and sylpheed
Hey guys, I just emered sylpheed on my gentoo machine and I am having trouble using it to access my gmail account. The client connects to the server fine, sends mail and receives mail that is sent from my account via the web interface. However it doesn't retrieve all my old emails or any email that i send my self.
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Ali |
I know this dosn't answer your question but kmail and evolution work ok.
I much prefer kmail. It has no problem dealing with several accounts including gmail. I have not used evolution much but it handles the one account I set up satisfactorily. I tried Sylpheed briefly and had to abandon it. Mozilla mail does a fine job as well. |
Unfortunately I am trying to fight bloat, and thunderbird is big on bloat, so mozilla related is out of the question.
I will try using kmail, I have most of kde installed anyway- evolution I heard is pretty bloated as well. I really think sylpheed would work well and efficently but it seems to be lacking support for certain functions that gmail uses. Thanks for your recommendations. |
Try subscribing to the Sylpheed user's mailing list (details here: http://sylpheed.good-day.net/en/ml.html) and ask there. afaik, many people successfully use their gmail accounts with sylpheed.

I have been using a newer version of Sylpeed and have found the same problem. It will not send an email from one gmail account to another, despite using my isp's smtp server.
In all fairness to Sylpheed, I have not experienced the trouble I had with a previous version and it does seem to work ok except for the sending email between accounts. Gmail archives, trashes, or keeps mail in inbox via "settings". Clients will not access archived mail. |
I figured out what had happened, the previous program i used managed to take all the mail from gmails server regardless of the settings set in gmail. For sylpheed however, you need to open up gmail via web browser, navigate to the settings page and under pop3 and forwarding you should change the radio button to receive all mail including archived mail. That way you will receive them all. However you want to change this setting once you have synced up the server. As far as sending mail between accounts, I need you to described in greater detail your problem.

I have two gmail accounts and both are setup with Sylpheed. I use my isp's smtp server for sending mail - the same one for both accounts. I was not able to send mail from one account to the other via Sylpheed.

I have no idea why that is the case- why not use gmails smtp?
