Gmail and Evolution

When I hit send/ receive in evolution everything appears to work ok (no error) but it downloads nothing.
evolution 2.41

It's set up this way
server: pop.gmail.com and tried pop.gmail.com:995
username: tried user.name@gmail.com as well as user.name
user secure connection: always
and authentication is password

I just upgraded to ubuntu 5.10 and was using evolution with mandrake 10.1 before. that was working fine.

I logged into gmail, changed pop setting to download everything even if it has been downloaded already. That solved the issue
Although it downloaded every email since my account opened.
