It seems that they've made some changes to the program. The gears seem to rotate more slowly for the same framerate.
Question: I couldn't find any documentation on glxgears, where did you find this argument?
I just did a bit of googling. Apparently, the glxgears people wanted to get the message across that their program wasn't a benchmarking tool, so they removed the 'show fps by default' option. I don't really get it, though
I still think it was the wrong thing to do. I use glxgears to ensure that all is well with my graphics setup. The nvidia driver needs reinstalling quite often, after updates. Ah well, time for a 1-line script.
Just a little FYI, if you are looking for a video benchmark app GLOBS is pretty decent. We aren't lucky enough to have a 3dMark port yet but this is a start.
