glxgears no longer reports framerate

Not sure if this should be here or in Debian.

Using Debiaan Sarge, unstable and Nvidia driver.

After installing the latest version of xbase-clients glxgears runs but does not report the framerate.

Has anybody else noticed this and has anybody got any suggestions please?

Code:
glxgears -printfps
WORKS!
Thanks linmith.
It seems that they've made some changes to the program. The gears seem to rotate more slowly for the same framerate.

Question: I couldn't find any documentation on glxgears, where did you find this argument?

I just did a bit of googling. Apparently, the glxgears people wanted to get the message across that their program wasn't a benchmarking tool, so they removed the 'show fps by default' option. I don't really get it, though

I've heard that, about the benchmarking aspect.

I still think it was the wrong thing to do. I use glxgears to ensure that all is well with my graphics setup. The nvidia driver needs reinstalling quite often, after updates. Ah well, time for a 1-line script.

Thanks for the info

Just a little FYI, if you are looking for a video benchmark app GLOBS is pretty decent. We aren't lucky enough to have a 3dMark port yet but this is a start.

Testing OpenGL to make sure it's actually installed properly?
