Global Menu Questions for Fedora 11

Hi all

I've been using fedora 11 for a while now and it is great =) I wouldn't use any other distro.

I'm a big fan of Mac OS X and its UI features, like the dock, and the menubar.

So I compiled and installed glabalmenu from svn. But it makes some of my apps segfault, most notably Fiefox and Eclipse. Right now I'm using Midori for web browsing, and it makes full use of globalmenu.

Eclipse, on the other hand, has no replacement. I absolutely must have it, but I don't want to have to sacrifice globalmenu just because of Eclipse. I've heard that one could switch off globalmenu for specific applications by adding a line in ~/.gnomerc or something, but Fedora 11 doesn't have any such file. I've tried putting it in other files without success.

So I'd like to ask if there is a patch or a workaround to disable globalmenu for certain applications? doesn't use globalmenu, but at least it still runs without segfaulting. Believe me I've searched everywhere, but most solution are for Ubuntu or Fedora 10 and previous, and none of those work because Fedora 11 is so different.

Thank you

Java apps, firefox and openoffice will not have global menubar. Only Gnome apps will if you use global menubar. Both Qt/KDE and GTK apps will have global menubar with Xbar from the Bespin project, but you will have to use plasma. If you don't mind using it, it will be the best solution.

Never been a fan of KDE

I don't like the feel of KDE... never have liked it. I totally prefer gnome. my menu bars are wasting valuable screen space and it would be better off as a mac menubar, and gnome0globalmeny does a great job but I just need it to be switched off for certain applications so that I can use it. Firefox has plugins that hide the menubar and that's ok, and I'll live with eclipse and not benefiting from it, but for the other apps it would be great.
